Kwanini Foundation’s First Fundraiser at St Paul’s Cathedral

The Kwanini Foundation team, consisting of Lynne, Roly and Natalie, were kindly invited to present at the Tamesis annual party held in the crypt of St. Paul’s Cathedral in aid of fundraising for our Sele’s School Project.

Tamesis Managing Director Tony Lovett visited the Manta Resort in 2017 where Rashid, his service fundi, introduced him to Sele’s school in the village of Kijijini. Tony returned to the UK and decided he wanted to continue to support Kwanini Foundation and therefore invited the team to present at Tamesis’s annual party as a fundraising opportunity.

The event was held in the crypt of St Paul’s Cathedral, the largest crypt in Europe. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren in the 17th Century the Cathedral is one of London’s most impressive and recognisable landmarks. As the photos show, it’s easy to see why!

The event started with an introduction by Tony, who talked about why he had chosen to support the Kwanini Foundation. Lynne then introduced the Foundation’s work, how it started and what we hope to achieve on Pemba. Roly rounded up the presentation with an update on Sele’s school, the project which Tamesis have chosen to support. Sele runs after-school lessons for around 70 children, teaching English and Maths in a seaweed storage room. Tamesis want to raise $5,000 to purchase the land required to build a dedicated classroom to host the lessons. You can find more information on Sele’s School Project by visiting Our Projects - Sele's School

The event was a huge success and donations are still coming in, we will let you know how much was raised as soon as we have a total. Thank you to all those who donated, we will keep you updated on progress of the project!

Everyone at Kwanini would like to send a huge thank you to Tamesis for their generous donations and for offering us our first fundraising opportunity at such a fantastic event. Special thanks to Tony for all his support and inviting us along and Jenna for all her efforts in organising. We hope this is the first of many fundraising events to come!
